What this site does not collect
There are no accounts to create, no sign-up forms, no comment boxes and no newsletters. Swelter Almanac runs no analytics and no advertising or tracking scripts, and the site itself sets no cookies. Nothing you read here is recorded against your name, because the site never asks for it.
What loads from other servers
Two kinds of outside requests happen, and both are described here so there are no surprises.
Fonts. Typefaces load from Google Fonts. Your browser asks Google's font servers for the font files, so those servers see a standard web request, including your IP address, as with any web resource.
Video thumbnails. Some pages include a how-to video from a government agency, utility, extension service or equipment maker. Before you click, the page shows only a still thumbnail image, loaded from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com). No YouTube player and no YouTube script loads at that point.
How the video players work
The videos are click-to-play. Only when you press play does the page load the player, and it loads it from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain. From that moment you are dealing with YouTube, and its own privacy policy applies to the video you chose to watch. If you never press play, no player is loaded.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, the host that serves these pages keeps standard server logs, such as the time of a request, the page asked for and the requesting IP address. They are used for security and to keep the site running, not to build profiles or for advertising.
Links to other sites
Pages link to primary sources such as ENERGY STAR, EPA, the CDC and the National Weather Service, and a few pages link to businesses that share this site's owners, as listed on who owns this site. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy practices apply. For more about what Swelter Almanac is and is not, see about Swelter Almanac.
